D.I.Y Dinosaur Eggs!
These are DINO-Mite!
This is such an easy and simple activity to either make with your children or make in advance as a surprise for them and great for a day at home in the garden.
It’s definitely an outdoor activity as it does get a bit messy or it could be done on a Tuff Tray inside if you have one.
We had everything we needed to make these in our cupboards like flour, salt and mud from the garden. The only thing we didn’t have was used coffee grounds which we got from Coffee#1. Most coffeeshops have a stock of used grounds that they will happily give you for free. Lots of people use them in their gardens.
Here's what you'll need:
Here is the Method:
In a bowl, mix together all of the dry ingredients – flour, salt, coffee and mud/sand.
Add the water a little bit at a time and mix well. You can get your hands dirty with this bit and form a dough. If it’s too dry then you can add a little more water.
Get some of the mixture in your hand with one of mini toys and mould into an egg shape around the toy. The mixture made 4 eggs for us.
Place on a tray and let them dry out completely. This takes about 4 days but I’m too impatient so popped them in the oven on the lowest temperature until they were dry. It probably took about an hour. Keep turning your eggs over whilst baking so that they are not flat on one side.
Get your children to gather to gather some tools that they can use to crack open the eggs.
For littler ones, if you make the egg a little wet then it’s easier to break in to.
Let us know if you have a go at this activity and what your little ones think.
