Oakley Wood near Wellesbourne
A walk amongst the ferns
We went on another adventure into the woods last week. This time we went to Oakley Wood near Wellesbourne/Warwick. It is another Warwickshire Wildlife Trust site.
It is located on the same site as Oakley Wood Crematorium but has a separate car park. As soon as you turn in off the main road the car park is on the left. There are only about 10 spaces but there’s a lay-by opposite the main entrance that people seemed to be parking in. Just make sure you park safely if you park there.
We’ve been quite a few times for walks. There are two waymarked walking routes to follow in the woods, a blue trail with 8 trail marker posts and a red one with 12 posts.
The blue route is the shorter route so a bit better for little legs and is approximately a 40 minute walk.
It’s a really lovely walk. Ours love exploring and building dens, collecting sticks and cones and running wild.
If you go when it’s been raining be sure to wear wellies as it can get boggy and wet in areas.
We saw a couple of people walking with buggies but I wouldn’t say that all of it would be wheelchair friendly.
We went on one of the super hot days and it was lovely as it’s mostly shaded.
There are no toilet facilities so be prepared.
